“Cosa posso fare ora per gli altri?” dev’essersi chiesto Cameron Carpenter quando il corona virus si è manifestato paralizzando la vita musicale di tutto il mondo. L’organista di fama internazionale ha un vantaggio: è anche un artista “girovago”. Ha ideato infatti l’International Touring Organ, concepito apposta per i concerti itineranti, che ha debuttato a New York e Vienna nel 2014.
Poco dopo il concerto di Pasqua stanziale alla Konzerthaus (visibile su Arte fino al 12 maggio) il trentanovenne organista americano, che a Berlino vive, ha deciso di dare il via a un tour molto speciale: il Window Concert Tour.
“È bello suonare per le persone che forse potrebbero non essere in grado di partecipare alla nostra vita culturale o che forse non sono in grado di farlo tanto quanto vorrebbero” ha detto Carpenter a Stern (video, in tedesco).
Da giovedì 30 aprile a sabato 2 maggio 2020 suonerà quindi nella capitale tedesca di fronte a ventisei case di cura e ricoveri per senza tetto su un camion, facendo ricorso a un organo elettronico Viscount e un sistema di amplificazione normalmente usato durante i festival. Il programma di mezz’ora è replicato da nove a dieci diverse sedi ogni giorno ed offre una selezione dalle Variazioni Goldberg di Bach e altri brani che i residenti potranno ascoltare dalle loro finestre senza muoversi da casa.
Rispettando le norme del distanziamento sociale attualmente in vigore a Berlino ha deciso di non preannunciare l’itinerario o le sedi dove avverranno le esibizioni, una parte delle quali saranno visibili nelle stories del suo profilo instagram e sulla pagina Facebook (sotto “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”).
“What can I do now for others?” is simply as that.
This is what Cameron Carpenter must have thought when corona virus stopped the music life all over the world. The internationally renowned organist has the advantage of being an “itinerant musician”. His stunning International Touring Organ was debuted in New York and Vienna in 2014. Slightly after the Easter Concert (streaming on Arte is available until May 12th) the 39-year-old American organist has decided to embark on a very special tour.
Until Saturday, May 2nd 2020, he will play in front of 26 nursing and homeless facilities in Berlin, using a Viscount electronic organ and a sound system truck normally used at festivals. He will present one recital at 9 to 10 different locations each day, offering thirty-minute performances from J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations and other pieces at each location that residents can enjoy from their windows without leaving home. He decided to give them at least a little pleasure, to let them feel that they have not been forgotten.
In order to comply with all social distancing best practices in force in Berlin at this time, he did not announce the itinerary or the locations, but he will stream some of the performances to Instagram stories live and his Facebook page.
